Founder & Lead Genetic Counsellor

Shannon is from Saskatchewan and is a University of Regina alumnus. She received her graduate degree in Genetic Counselling from the University of Utah and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. She has worked for over 7 years in cancer genetics for Northwell Health, New York’s largest health network. 

She has worked with top medical oncologists, surgeons, and gynecologic oncologists in New York City to start Northwell’s first pediatric hereditary cancer predisposition clinic and expand Northwell’s adult hereditary cancer program to Manhattan. Her research has been published in the Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, comparing different genetic testing methods for diagnosing hereditary cancer syndromes in children with cancer. 

Shannon is driven by a passion for increasing access to genetic testing for Canadians in a medically responsible, time-sensitive, and cost-effective way – she is the founder and lead genetic counsellor of Healica Genetic Counselling, Saskatchewan’s first and only private genetics practice.

Ensures smooth day-to-day operations of the technology at Healica. Dr. Oleskiw is a professor of computer science at the University of Regina and investigates the use of artificial intelligence to facilitate patient service.
